Boasting a menu of creative flavors and equally creative names, Milkjam Creamery is an ice cream shop for the 21st century. Cool off with a scoop of one of their "regular" flavors, such as the namesake Milkjam, a caramelized blend of goat's, cow's, and sweetened condensed milks. "May Flowers," the theme for this month's limited-time offerings, features flavors infused with orange blossoms, roses, and lavender. Wow the guests at your summer BBQ with a dessert course of All of Them, a colossal masterpiece that includes one scoop of each flavor along with all the sauces and toppings and finished off with crushed waffle cones. Hours are noon - 10 p.m. daily.
Grand Ole Creamery - 750 Grand Ave., St. Paul, MN 55105
As the first and longest-standing premium gourmet ice cream shop in the Twin Cities, Grand Ole Creamery has earned its name. The family-owned business, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, is now in the hands of the third generation. In addition to dozens of flavors with intriguing names like Black Hills Gold and North Country Crunch, the menu includes novelty items such as their signature Monkey Tail, a chocolate-dipped banana skewered on a popsicle stick. There's even a Frosty Paw cup for your furry friend. Grand Ole Creamery is open noon - 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, noon - 10 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. - 10 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. Sunday.
Bebe Zito Ice Cream & Burgers - 704 W. 22nd St., Minneapolis, MN 55405
The creation of Bebe Zito Ice Cream & Burgers was a labor of love in more ways than one. Founders Ben and Gabriella, united by a common passion for ice cream, wanted to share their obsession with the rest of the Twin Cities. Just before announcing the opening of Bebe Zito on live television, Ben put a ring on it with a proposal to Gabriella right in front of the shop. Today, fellow ice cream lovers can't get enough of hand-crafted, whimsical flavors like Dat Malt Dough, a sweet cream base studded with salted, malted chocolate ganache cookie dough. Bebe Zito is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. - 10 p.m.
2 Scoops Eatery - 921 Selby Ave., St. Paul, MN 55104
Fear not, the name of 2 Scoops Eatery is not a limitation placed on customers. With a selection of more than 18 mouthwatering flavors, you'll have a hard time stopping at two. For example, they have all members of the family covered with Blue Moon and Gumball for the kids and Exhausted Parent, bourbon-spiked espresso ice cream with chunks of bittersweet chocolate, for Mom and Dad. Hours are noon - 9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, noon - 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and noon - 7 p.m. Sunday.
Pumphouse Creamery - 4754 Chicago Ave., Minneapolis, MN 55407
At Pumphouse Creamery, their motto is, "We have big dreams of staying small." Owner Barb Zapzalka sources ingredients such as milk, cream, butter, and fruit from local growers and providers wherever possible. Freshly made "farm-to-cone" flavors include Maple Vanilla Bean, Dulce de Leche, and Mango with Pink Peppercorn. Hours are noon - 9 p.m. daily.
